Used PEP Bottles can be given a new lease of life

Category: Reuse and recycle

PEP bottles are typically used as containers for drinks and mineral waters. They are often thrown away after a single usage. As such, they form a very large bulk of recyclable waste materials.

Incidently, they are also be re-used for many applications.

The followings are some tips for reusing them.

1. Use them to as pot for growing small plants.

By cutting the PEP bottle into half, the bottom half can be use as mini flower pots. Simply place soil in and seed the soil with the intended plant seeds. This is ideal for growing various types of beans and weedgrass.

2. Use as a liquid drip.

By inverting the bottle, we can creatively use the PEP bottle as a liquid drip. I have seen people using a sliced and inverted PEP bottles being used as drips for watering plants. To make the drip, firstly the plastic cap of the bottle has to be secured onto the bottle. Next, pierce a tiny hole into the middle of the plastic cap. Cut away the bottom section of the bottle body. Invert the bottle and secure it into a fixed position. You can do so by many means, one of which is by using nylon strings. Once the bottle is secured, pour the intended water/solution from the cut end of the bottle. Liquid solution or water should drip intermittently from the hole on the bottle cap.

Personally, I think one can use used PEP bottles in a lot of other ways too. Therefore this is certainly not a exhaustive list. Used PEP bottles can have much more creative applications.
