What is mulching? It is the covering of the top soil surface with certain layers of materials. This is a way to exclude light from reaching the soil and prevents weeds from growing.

The following are some materials that can be used for mulching

1. Newspapers. Remember to anchor the edges to prevent the newspaper from being blown away.

2. Compost. This method can be rather attractive.

3. Cut Grass. Grass that have been cut by a lawn mower can be used as mulch. Grass layer must not be too deep. If it is too deep, rotting may occur producing an unpleasant smell.

4. Biodegradable polythene. Seriously, brown paper is a better althernative than this.

5. black polythene sheet. One of the most effective material. Remember to anchor the edges to prevent from being blown away

6. Shredded tree barks. In my opinion, this one is the most beautiful form of mulch.

These are some example of mulching materials. Certainly, there are many more materials. Nevertheless, these are the more common ones.
