3D character modelling and posing is one of the most difficult aspect of 3D modelling. It will be good that the task be made easier. Are there ways to make 3D human models easily and for free? Yes there are.

There are several free programs on the internet that allows for the making and posing of 3D human models. Below I will list 2 of them:

DAZ Studio

This program is pretty cool and is similar to the Poser software. However, I find it to be lagging when being run on lower-end computers. If you have a fairly powerful computer, it should run just fine.

DAZ Studio can be downloaded from www.daz3d.com. Actually, the download comes as a base program. You can purchase addition items and 3D humans models from the website. Before you can download anything, you will need to register as a member first.

Besides DAZ Studio, Daz3d.com also have many other 3D modeling and rendering products which as good and affordable.

Makehuman 3D

Another cool program. This one is not backed by a commercial entity. Instead it is open sourced. Makehuman 3D has it roots in the very popular Blender3D opensource 3D modelling suite.

Like DAZ Studio, Makehuman has an unconventional interface for a 3D program. It is almost entirely icons driven. I find this quite confusing. So it is advisable to read the online documentation and manual. The models created with Makehuman can be exported as Wavefront format.

On a low end computer there are some lags. However, the lag is not as bad as with the case of Daz Studio. I find that by turning, grid and wireframe off, the interface is more responsive. You can get Makehuman from http://www.dedalo-3d.com/.
