Building a website entails much considerations and thoughts. Planning is required for effective delivery of site objective. The following is a checklist for website building.

Content:

Is the content of the site relevant? Normally, it is good practice to have a good spread of keywords so that the pages can rank well on the search engine.

Design Style:

Is your website's style consistent with your objective for its existence? Normally, if it is a business site, it should look professional and formal. A personal blog can exude more fun and individuality.

Browser and OS Compatibility:

Does your site looks fine on all Operating Systems and Browser? As Firefox and Internet Explorer are 2 of the most common browser. It is advisable to test view the site on both programs. If you can test, your page on the different OS namely, Mac, Windows and Linux.

Graphics:

Do your graphics contribute to or detract from your website? A website should have some graphics. But it should not be overdone. Please remember to keep the file size as low as possible. I normally use GIMP to optimise the file size.

User interaction :

By providing a place to sign up for your mailing list or newsletter, you get to keep in touch with your visitors. These can keep them coming back to your site.

Search engine optimization:

This is a very important consideration. The website must be optimised for search engine. As a basic rule, the meta tags must be present. A good balance of keyword must also be present within the content.

Loading speed:

Does your site load fast enough in the viewer's browser? Your site should be fully loaded within seven seconds. Anything longer may drive potential visitors away.

Navigation menu :

Is your site easy to navigate. Avoid complicated dropdown menu. Also Flash may not always be a good choice.

Links:

Are all the links and URLs on your website working well? First make sure any links between pages on your site are directing site visitors to the correct page.
