This is a rather unique profession. A doula provides several types of support to pregant women. A doula is also often a female herself. The nature of their job often involves being a continous care provider. They can provide pain-decreasing techniques which may include reflexology, good breathing techniques and body positionings. Doulas also give emotional supports to expecting mums. They are often required to assist the expecting mum during her journey from home to the place of child birth.

Although the Doula is non-medical trained, she is very beneficial to the wellbeing of the mother and child. Basically there is two main types of Doula:

1. Labour and child-birth support doula. Provide supports that smoothens the birthing process.

2. Postpartum doulas. Provides service and support after childbirth.
