To have a web presence, you must have a website. To get a professional looking site, you must register for a domain name and pay for a web hosting service. After these have been done, the actual task of building the website can commence. To actually build the website, there are several route to take:

Option 1. Build webpages and upload them

Option 2. Install Content Management System (CMS) on the server.

Option 3. Install Blog on the server

If you choose option 1, you may need to learn HTML and/or use a web editing and designing software.

There are many commercial softwares on the market that can design web pages for you. Some of them are:

1. Microsoft Frontpage

3. Macromedia Dreamweaver

4. Object Net Fusion

In my opinion Macromedia Dreamweaver is by far the best of the commercial web editors.

If you choose to build webpage in this manner, you will need to upload the pages to the server. As such you may need a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software.
