The first thing that is needed is a great Business Idea. You will have to do the following to be reasonable sure:

This there a market for the service or product that you are offering? Find out. Go out to the playing field to explore.

3. Check out potential competitions

Who are the competitors out there? The competitor do not even have to provide the same type of product or services. As long as they are filling a niche that is fulfilling your target's group's requirement, they are your competitors.

Be as realistic and comprehensive as possible in your planning and research. Also do consider whether this business is going to be on a long term basis or not.

Money is also a very important essential when starting a business. This is an unavoidable fact of life. However, you can spend your investments wisely and cut down on non-essential spendings.

Another route for initial startup cost is to take a bank loan. Remember that banks charge interest for their loans. You'd have to pay back the principal sum you borrow with interest added. Though the interest rate might sound managable, the interest you have to pay can accumulate to an alarming amount. Please bear this in mind

A better alternative is perhaps to try to get a business grant.

Overhead and equipment cost is another very important consideration. For some businesses, a virtual office may be good enough. Businesses that do not need a lot of space may not need a big office. For example, if you are providing web design or some kind of digital services such as programming, virtual office may be just fine. Virtual offices are low in monthly rental. Many of them offers only essential such as a small space and/or faxing equipment. If software is required, tried to get good free or opensource alternatives to commercial counterparts. For example, Open office will be good enough to replace Microsoft Office.
